#1 Plugins och teman – så skiljer sig WordPress och Webflow
With WordPress: Endless possibilities, endless dependencies
As we began working more with websites for our clients, the page builder Elementor became increasingly popular in the WordPress world — quickly becoming a game changer with a growing community behind it. If Elementor lacked a feature, there was almost always a plugin to download to complement it.
We went from using a few plugins to relying on many to get all functionality to work — especially on sites not built with Elementor but that we still worked on. Many of these websites had over 30 plugins and were built with other page builders like WPBakery, ACF with custom code, Divi, themes with their own built-in page builders, or completely from scratch with custom code.
Each website became a unique ecosystem, and instead of having a clear, consistent way of building, every WordPress site was a unique build. We had to learn how each page builder worked, and sometimes it took hours to make small changes. Minor updates quickly became time-consuming and frustrating, especially when working on landing and campaign pages where speed in building, testing, and adjusting was crucial.

Time-consuming updates and plugin issues
Keeping WordPress and all plugins updated was another bottleneck. Updating the WordPress core, plugins, themes, and sometimes even PHP to keep the website secure and compatible became a constant challenge. We called it "defense mode" — instead of developing and improving, we got stuck just trying to keep everything working.
And when plugins were no longer supported or became incompatible with new WordPress versions, we often spent hours replacing them, testing, and troubleshooting — especially on more complex sites with many integrations. The more plugins, the greater the risks.
That’s when we began questioning how we built websites, and how we as a web agency could work smarter to deliver faster and better results to our clients.
With Webflow: Everything you need, built-in from the start
Webflow gives us amazing flexibility, and since it’s such a powerful tool, we no longer need to build solutions with a ton of external plugins — the features are already built in.
This allows us to create advanced websites with animations that enhance user experience and SEO-optimized pages without external programs. The result? Better solutions in less time, and instead of being in defense mode, we are always on the offensive.
Efficient structure and faster production
By using a combination of frameworks from Finsweet and Lumos, we can ensure a structured and scalable foundation for our projects from the start. This enables us to quickly create responsive and test-ready landing pages without adding unnecessary custom code — perfect for Google Ads campaigns.
With a prepared style guide, we streamline page creation, and with the new GSAP integration for animations, we improve the experience while quickly testing and adjusting to meet market needs.

No maintenance time, more focus on innovation
The best thing about Webflow is that we don’t have to worry about updates and maintenance, something WordPress often required. Webflow has no system functions, plugins, or themes that need updating; everything is handled automatically behind the scenes.
That frees up time so we can focus on what we’re really here to do: develop, improve, and create new solutions for our clients.
#2 Security – Comparing WordPress and Webflow Security Features
With WordPress: Open source, open risks
We’ve seen it happen — websites infected with malware via plugins, both old and new, which the administrator didn’t even know were on the site. In some cases, entire websites crashed; in others, malware was downloaded to the user’s device, or the site redirected to spam and scam pages. In the worst case, the site could become completely inaccessible or deleted.
That’s why it’s critical for anyone using WordPress to have daily backups.
The hidden risks of WordPress plugins and how to protect your website
When you also have to consider server settings, PHP versions, and themes with their own logic, you quickly realize that security in WordPress requires constant vigilance — it’s not something you just tick off and forget. Everything is connected in a chain of parts that must be kept updated all the time.
It demands time, oversight, and constant alertness.
And still, it happens. Websites get hacked more often than you might think.

With Webflow: Security you don’t have to think about
Webflow is a closed system where all security is handled directly by the platform. Unlike WordPress, there are no plugins, themes, or system components you need to monitor or update to keep current and secure. Security is built-in from the start, you don’t have to configure, patch, or worry about what will happen at the next CMS update.
Everything just works.
Built for security. From the ground up.
If someone wanted to try to hack your Webflow site, they’d have to hack the entire Webflow platform. Unlike WordPress, where vulnerabilities often come from plugins or themes, Webflow handles security at the platform level — so you’re protected by default.
"To successfully take down a Webflow website, you’d have to take down the entire Webflow platform."
That makes a huge difference — especially when working with client websites in sensitive industries. Technically, it means we can leave a Webflow site untouched for years, and when we come back, it works exactly as it should — without worrying about updates or security problems.
- No malware.
- No crashes after updates.
How Webflow ensures maximum security
Webflow also has a library of apps (like plugins), but unlike WordPress, nothing is allowed in without thorough review. All add-ons undergo strict testing by Webflow itself before approval, specifically to avoid anything affecting platform security or stability.
We can instead focus on developing new solutions and creating value for our clients.
#3 SEO – Control and Performance in WordPress and Webflow
With WordPress: Slow load times affecting user experience
When we worked with WordPress previously, we often encountered issues with website speed and SEO results. Despite using various optimization plugins — such as caching and optimization plugins — it was difficult to reach the results we aimed for. Plugins like Elementor added a lot of unnecessary code, making pages heavy and negatively affecting scores in PageSpeed Insights.
We tried several options, but hitting the green zone for both desktop and mobile felt almost impossible. Some plugins even created new problems, especially if the website wasn’t built with best practices in mind.
With Webflow: Efficient code that delivers fast pages
Since we started using Webflow, we’ve never had faster or more SEO-optimized websites. The platform generates clean HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — completely without extra code. The result is a lean and efficient codebase that improves load times, minimizes technical issues, and makes it much easier to achieve top results in PageSpeed Insights, both on mobile and desktop.

SEO challenges in Webflow
Webflow doesn’t have the all-in-one features of an SEO plugin for WordPress, meaning you need to know what to do. It requires more technical knowledge and a clearer SEO setup from the start. But it also gives full control over every aspect of the website — from URL structure and meta tags to advanced settings like schema markup.
This obviously means more hands-on work but also offers the chance to build an SEO strategy fully tailored to the site’s structure and goals — with long-term sustainability in mind.
From WordPress to Webflow – a Natural Step for Us as an Agency
This is our choice as a web agency — and we know it’s not for everyone. But for us, it quickly became clear that WordPress no longer fit our way of working.
With Webflow, we can build quickly and efficiently without spending time maintaining tons of plugins and systems. This lets us stay ahead and deliver results faster.
We prefer working with solutions we can iterate and optimize directly, without technical obstacles slowing us down. This lets us focus on what matters: creating measurable results and driving growth for our clients.
